Good Morning Everyone!

This week Award Window Cleaning will be having it's first call back / safety meeting of 2012. I always look forward to this meeting because I get to see how my window tecs have grown and changed during the off-season. Of course though with the call back meeting there is always a lot of paperwork involved. So everyone in our office is extremely busy getting packets of papers ready for everyone to fill out. But even with the hustle and bustle going on, to me, the call back meeting means a fresh start to a brand new season and that it's time to get out into the city and get it shining!

This week, hopefully today, we will be starting another blog that will be located right on the Award Window website. This blog will consist of topics such as 5 things to never do to your windows, tips and tricks and other things of that nature. We will continue to blog here as well, so to all of my loyal readers (I know you're out there), don't fret, you'll now have double to read!

Did you know that Award Window Cleaning has videos on Youtube? Video 1 was created by my son and Video 2 is out yellowpages advertisement. Take a look at what we can do!

Spring Is On It's Way

Hello All

Getting back in the swing of things here after a great time in New Orleans for the IWCA Forum & Showcase. I always come back with excitement for the new season and how to implement the new things I learned from seminars and networking with friends old and new.

This year was special for me as at the ending banquet I accepted my plaque for three years of participation on the IWCA Board of Director, and was inducted as the new IWCA Secretary. I look forward to being the secretary and the challenges it will bring. Also serving on the executive committee and all the other committees I am also serving on. I enjoy being on the Board of Directors and giving input on how window washers see and do things.

While I was attending the convention in New Orleans, Ryan Spaulding, one of my high rise window cleaners, was certified as a Level 1 Rope Access Technician through the Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians (SPRAT). Ryan is now going to be Award Window Cleaning's high rise supervisor. Both him and I are very excited about this certification.

Although the air outside on this Monday afternoon is cool, the sun is beating down and it makes me anxious for spring. We've been able to get some extra work done this winter due to the fact that we haven't had much snow. As of now, I'm trying to get all of my "ducks in a row" so we can leap strong into the 2012 window washing season.

I plan to post here more this year and for any one that reads here I hope you have a wonderful Spring, Summer and all of 2012.

I cant wait to see my first Robin to officially welcome in spring,

'Tis the season to be thankful and that's exactly what we are here at Award Window Cleaning. At this time of the year, we look back at how Award Window Cleaning has moved forward in 2011. But while we're thinking about all of that, the truth is, there wouldn't be Award Window Cleaning without all of our wonderful, loyal customers. So, the truth is, we are thankful, so very thankful, for you, our customers. It has definitely been a wonderful year working and growing with each and every one of you. I hope that all of you get to spend a little extra time with the people you love, see some people that you may not get to see as often as you'd like and just enjoy this season. I hope that all of your travels are safe as well.

Hello Fellow Window Washers!!

Can you believe that tomorrow is the 1st of December and we don't have any snow yet? We've been very lucky to be able to work this long into the winter season. Although we've had some cold days and we've had to wait for the frost to melt on the windows before we could get to work, we've gotten a lot done. I'd have to say that we had a GREAT window washing season! Now that we've started to slow down, it's time to start thinking about next year. I've got a few new ideas that I'm hoping to get rolling next year, but you'll have to stay tuned into my future blogs to find out more about those

As of now, I'm busy getting my plows ready for the snowy season and planning for the 2012 IWCA Convention in New Orleans. This year I will be speaking in a session titled "Best Practices for a Safe Company". I'll be talking about performing roof work under the new OSHA regulations and the best practices to keep your employees safe. I'm looking forward to this convention very much.

I want to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. Be safe in your travels and enjoy the company of your family and loved ones.

Hello Everyone

It's Been A While, Hasn't It?

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day on this crisp October Friday. I recently came back from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I attended an IWCA Board meeting and learned quite a few new things. But at the same time, there is a lot to be done before the IWCA Convention in early 2012.

I have a lot of people asking me if we're slowing down because of the turn in the weather. When they ask that I just have to laugh. We are still extremely busy and there is quite a lot to get done before the snow falls. My crews are working just as hard as they were in the middle of the summer, they're just not as warm as they were then (lol). We have a lot of big buildings to get done before the water freezes on the glass. It's important to get that last clean in before winter comes. That way your windows stay clean as long as possible throughout the winter.

Fall is Here

Welcome Friends & Fellow Window Cleaners

Fall is definitely upon us in West Michigan. I noticed frost on my grass this morning when I was getting ready to head to the office. But that's ok, I was ready for it. Fall has been knocking on my door for over a month now. I've been getting a lot of calls to schedule Fall Clean-Up for many of our customers. So, once again, we are working our (now cold) butts off getting windows cleaned. If you're looking out of your windows right now, noticing how dirty they are, give Award Window Cleaning a call!

Before the weather turned, we had our Award Window Cleaning Company Picnic. We had a blast! It's always fun to have all of the Award Window Cleaning crew out to the lake. Everyone was swimming, tubing, riding the wave runners, we had a GREAT time! My crew knows how much I appreciate them. Without them, there wouldn't be Award Window Cleaning.

Back Again

Hello Everyone!

Once again we're having issues with Mother Nature. She hasn't quite been herself this year, if you ask me. Just like it has been this whole year, we're still very busy. It would be great if the weather could stay nice, and maybe the wind could die down just a little bit. We're coming into the time of the year where we're starting our Fall Clean-Up and I need as many GREAT days as possible.

Our company picnic is coming up this weekend. My window techs have worked so hard and long this year. I know that it puts a toll on family life when someone works as many hours a week as some of my guys do. I am very grateful for them and the time that they put into this company. As everyone knows, there would be no company without it's employees. I know I couldn't wash all of the windows that those guys do! So to all of my employees at Award Window Cleaning, thank you for all of your hard work. You guys are the best and you show it in all of your great work.

Hello Friends & Fellow Window Washers

Well, it's been over a month since I last bloged (oops!). But, of course, that's due to the enormous amount of work that has been coming our way. It seems as soon as my receptionist hangs up the phone from one call, it starts ringing again. But hey, I'd much rather be crazy busy washing windows than be worrying about bringing in business.

Happy 4th of July Everyone!

I'm sure those beautiful fireworks downtown will be reflecting off of the shinny glass that we've recently cleaned.

We had a couple of good days this week where we got a lot of glass cleaned. It felt really nice to actually get some jobs completed and checked off my (mile long) list of things to do. Now if this cluster of storms could blow on over, then maybe I could cross off a few more.

Busy Busy Busy

Good Afternoon Everyone!

It's been 33 days since I last posted. That's probably because once the weather fully broke into beautiful sun shine everyone wanted their windows cleaned two days ago. We've been VERY busy here at Award Window Cleaning! We're in the process of getting some major buildings done, like the VanAndel Arena and every Memorial Day Weekend we clean Amway World Headquarters.

I've told everyone that since this year is a special one for Award Window Cleaning, our 20th year in business, I decided that we would get back into residential window cleaning. I'm happy to say that it was a great decision! We've been doing quite a few residential jobs, anything from window cleaning to soft washing vinyl siding to power washing decks. It's been great to get back into dealing with everyday people that need our services!

Happy Earth Day

Hello To All!!

This Michigan weather sure does have us all turned upside down here at Award Window Cleaning. We had a bunch of great, beautiful, sunny days. But lately, wind, rain and even some snow. I wish that Mother Nature would figure out which season she'd like it to be. Personally, I vote for Summer!

Today is Earth Day. Here at Award Window Cleaning, we've been trying to do our part in helping the environment. Within the past year we've set up recycling containers throughout our building. We never really realized the amount of paper and plastic products we were going trough until we set up the bins. The amount of "junk mail" a business gets is outrageous! And add that to all of the envelopes that were getting thrown away, it is unreal. Another way we've been trying to be conscious of Mother Nature is by emailing or faxing our invoices. This helps reduce the amount of waste we are producing, not to mention it cuts down on costs a little too.

As we posted before, we are again doing residential window cleaning. It has taken off with a great start. Also, were getting many calls about the other residential services we offer. We have an ad in a couple local magazines with a $25 off coupon. If you happen to see it, make sure you give us a call and mention the ad.

Everyone try and have a good Easter and I will be posting again soon. I'm headed to Los Vegas next week for an IWCA meeting. See ya!

Spring has Sprung

Hello Everyone!

I hope everyone is having a great day even though the weather isn't the best. The rain doesn't help me get window washing done, but it does help get all of the mud off of my truck!

To all of my readers who received our "Sorry We Broke Your Windows" April Fools Day newsletter, we do have something to actually be sorry about. Somehow the email got kicked out at three o'clock a.m. instead of seven o'clock a.m. when it was supposed to. So hopefully no one got an alert on their cell phone at three a.m. with an email stating that we broke your windows. If that did happen though, we really are sorry.

Spring is definitely in full effect around our office, as I hope it is in yours. We're getting alot of calls for Spring Clean-up and we've even got some calls on repairing scratched glass (which to me is wonderful). Yep, 20 years ago I was pounding on doors Squeegee in hand offering myself as a one man squeegee machine. I was hungry and cheep that's for sure. Today still competitive and looking like " I Cant Believe I Ate The Hole Thing" I still love what I do and thank the lord for all of his blessings on me & my family. I can remember taking on almost any job I could Homes, Storefronts, Lift Work, and High-Rise mostly homes & storefronts. Later finding our niche in commercial properties and the Big Accounts letting go the executive residential services and small storefronts.

In light of celebrating "20 Years" in business we are bringing back the services that got me my start.
The difference will be not just window cleaning services in looking at our service and what we now want to offer it will be much more than window cleaning.

A Great 2011

Welcome Back Everyone!

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and a happy New Year.

To my liking, this winter has been mild compared to past years. So the snow plowing that I usually do has been minimal, but my ice fishing has been maximized! We've been able to complete our monthly route work without any problems due to weather also.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, this is Award Window Cleaning's 20th year in business. This is a very special year for me. I would like my 20th to be the best year out of them all. I've been working on alot of new ideas in the past couple of months and I'm looking forward to the new season to get them rolling. The only hint I'll give right now is to remember "No Job is Too Tall or Too Small".

First off I'd like to wish all of my readers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. To me it sure does seem like this year has gone by quite fast. It feels like it should still be summer to me. But I'm happy for the season that is before us. And speaking of new year, 2011 is Award Window Cleaning's 20th year in business. I am very excited about this being my twenty year mark. I have come up with a lot of new ideas in the past month or so and with 2011 being an important year for my business, I think that now is the best time to put those ideas in motion. I think that 2011 will be the best year that Award Window Cleaning has ever seen. Out with the old and in with the new is what I say! Winter is here, with out a doubt. All it takes is a single look outside to know that the warm weather is gone. And for me, winter means that the window cleaning season is once again over as well. There's not much that a window cleaner can do once the water starts to freeze on the glass. But don't you worry about me my friends. I have indoor window cleaning that needs to be done. I also do snow plowing during the winter as well. The window cleaning season may be over but this is definitely not a time for me to take a break. I am proud to say that my business stays quite busy all year long.

I'd like to thank all of my employees for their hard work this past season. I know that some of you put in very long days and very long work weeks quite a few times this summer. But you did a great job and I'm proud to have you represent Award WIndow Cleaning.

Winter is Almost Here

Winter is definitely knocking on our back door here at Award Window Cleaning. I see my window techs with more and more layers of clothing on every day. I hope to still have windows being cleaned throughout the next month. We wont be putting away our squeegees until the water starts freezing on the glass of the windows.

My techs completed the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in great speed. But as you can see by looking at the building, it looks beautiful. They really did do a great job. Thanks guys!

Well, I'm about to head home and cut up that deer that's hanging in my garage.

Helping Great Work Get Done

We have been part of the construction clean-up process of the new Helen DeVos Children's Hospital since the building was just a drawing on a piece of blue print paper. But as you can see, from blue print to almost finished product, the building has turned out beautiful. It has been an honor to be a part of something like this from start to finish. I think that big congratulations are in order for the Wolverine Construction Management / Turner. The Helen DeVos Children's Hospital really adds to the structural beauty of Downtown Grand Rapids.

With the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital opening on January 11, 2011 we are hard at work to make sure everything is just perfect for the big day. We've been blessed to be a part of something that will help change many people's lives.
